Farewell for the Papua New Guinea High Commissioner and Spouse

On Thursday 4 November, the Diplomatic Corps hosted a Reception to farewell the High Commissioner of Papua New Guinea, H.E. Brigadier General Francis Agwi (Retired) and his spouse Mrs. Martina Agwi, who have completed their term in New Zealand after a period over six years. The Reception was attended by many Ambassadors, High Commissioners & Spouses as well as several other members of the Diplomatic Corps. Unfortunately, the departing spouse Mrs. Agwi, was not able to attend as she had to attend to an urgent family matter. The High Commissioner of Samoa and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps (HE Leasi Papali’i Scanlan) spoke on behalf of the Diplomatic Corps to acknowledge the positive contributions of the departing High Commissioner and Mrs Agwi to the activities of the Diplomatic Corps. Leasi also thanked His Excellency for his role as Deputy Dean and especially for his support and friendship. He then warmly congratulate his Excellency for having the new Patrol Boat gifted by the Government of Australia to Papua New Guinea named after him – HMPNGS FRANCIS AGWI. The Dean then wished the High Commissioner safe travels home and the very best in his future endeavours.
The High Commissioner of Papua New Guinea, in response, thanked the Dean and Members of the Dip Corps for their support and friendship and expressed the wish to continue the contacts in the period ahead. On behalf of the Diplomatic Corps, the Ambassador of Germany & Spouse then presented the farewell gifts to the departing High Commissioner of Papua New Guinea. The High Commissioner of Papua New Guinea was accompanied by his First Secretary, Mr. Jonathan Kidu in the absence of Mrs. Agwi. H.E. Leasi Papali’i Scanlan was accompanied by his spouse, Mrs. Joyce Scanlan; his daughter, Ms. Tehani Scanlan; Counsellor, Mr. Robert Niko Aiono; and First Secretary, Mr. Tau Jurgen Kappus.
