High Commissioner Leasi Papalii Scanlan attended the 23rd Annual Conference of the FAGASA group in Invercargill from 7-9 April 2015. A non-profit organisation in New Zealand with the aim to nurture and preserve the Samoan language, Fagasa’s three day conference was officially opened by the High Commissioner. The theme for this year "Tautua ma le Faamaoni nei, aua sou taeao manuia" (Serve with Honesty, to ensure a brighter future). The High Commissioner in his address highlighted the importance of honesty and service as part of the Samoan culture and spoke of his own experience as a child and touched on these two key aspects of our culture and its importance. He challenged the FAGASA Group to continue to instill these core values in their teaching materials. The three day conference was attended by members of the Samoan community, Ministry of Education and members of the Samoan Council of Orators from various parts of New Zealand. This Conference also prepares the Samoan community with the same theme for Samoan Language Week in May 2015.
