Remembrance of Armistice Day

On Thursday 11 November, the Samoa High Commissioner (H.E. Leasi Papali’i Scanlan) laid a wreath on behalf of the Diplomatic Corps at the Ceremony to remember Armistice Day. After four terrible years of fighting, the First World War ended with the signing of an Armistice (Peace Agreement) between the Allied Countries and Germany on 11th November 1918. The hostility finally stopped at the 11th Hour on the 11th Day of the 11th Month!
The COVID-19 restricted Remembrance Ceremony was held at the Pukeahu Memorial and was attended by H.E. Rt Hon Dame Cindy Kiro and Dr Richard Davies. Also in attendance and laying wreaths were: Hon Meka Whaitiri (Minister for Veterans and representing the NZ Government), Dr Shane Reti (Deputy Leader and representing the Opposition), Air Marshall Kevin Short (Chief of Defence on behalf of the NZ Defence Force) and BJ Clark (National President on behalf of the Royal New Zealand Returned and Services’ Association).
