Samoa Language Week

Last week was the celebration of Samoa language week in New Zealand. It was officially opened on Sunday 25 May 2014 at the PIC Church in Porirua. A week long of celebration of events and activities at schools and universities were to follow. The High Commission was represented by the Counsellor Mr Hele Matatia at the official opening ceremony at the PIC Church and the opening in Parliament which the Minister of Pacific Island Affairs Peseta Sam Lotu Iiga opened and spoke about the importance of keeping Samoan language alive. This was attended by Members of Parliament, government officials and the general public. The theme for the Samoan language week this year was 'Taofi mau I au measina' 'holdfast to your treasurers'. The Samoa High Commission acknowledged the board members of FAGASA, the Human Rights Commission and the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs for their immense contribution to Samoa Language Week this year.
