Third Samoa High Commission Golf Academy Tournament
2nd December 2015
What an ecstatic weekend of golf for the third year of the Samoa High Commission Golf Academy Tournament which was held at Shandon Golf Club, Petone, 7th November 2015. This is the third year of the tournament and has proven its success by the growing number of supporters from our local community here in Wellington as well as participants from Samoa. Although the tournament major prize winner was a local golfer at the Shandon Golf Course, this did not stop the young elite squad members from challenging the cup. Mr Jayden Ford from the academy won the Best Junior Gross for the tournament. The major sponsor for the Tournament Afioga Tupua Fred Wetzell, President of the Apia Concrete Products donated NZ$23,000 on behalf of the ACP, PDL and Golden Bay Cement partnership in support of the Academy’s annual programme. The funds raised by the tournament assist with annual membership fees, tournament fees, purchase of golf equipment as well as fees for professional golfers to train the members of the Academy. With the success of the academy running for a third year, it has produced upcoming young Samoan golfers like Mr Jayden Ford and Mr Qualen Asi who have both won prestigious golf tournaments here in New Zealand and internationally. The aim of the academy is not only to continue to support our Samoan athletes but ensure they are able to contribute back to Samoa and its development. The High Commissioner H.E Leasi Papalii Scanlan thanked all the participants of the tournament and our loyal sponsors for all their continued support for the academy.
