Luncheon for the Successful Conclusion of the PCF New Zealand Scholarship Internship Programme 2020-2021
16th February 2021
Last Friday, 12th February 2021, the Samoa High Commissioner (H.E. Leasi Papali’i Scanlan) was invited by the Pacific Cooperation Foundation (PCF) to speak at the luncheon in Auckland to celebrate the successful conclusion of the PCF New Zealand Scholarship Internship Programme for 2020-2021. The other Guest Speaker was Member of Parliament, Anahila Kanongata’a Suisuiki. In his remarks, the High Commissioner noted how proud and honoured he was to meet these future leaders of their respective countries and the Pacific Region. He congratulated the Interns for their hard work and commitment to the Program over the past ten works and reminded them of the sacrifices made by their parents and families so that they could get the best education and better future than the humble beginnings that they (the parents) were brought up in. The High Commissioner expressed his gratitude to the New Zealand Government (in particular the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade and the Ministry of Pacific Peoples) and the PCF for the assistance provided to Pasifika peoples, not only in furthering their education through the various scholarships offered but also the valuable experiences gained from programs like these internships. Leasi also thanked the participating Companies and Organisations for the opportunities provided to the interns to develop their skills and learn new ones. In concluding, the High Commissioner reminded the interns to make sure that they return home and use the knowledge and experiences that they have gained to help in the development of their Island Countries. He again congratulated and thanked the PCF Team, in particular Afamasaga Jackie Curry and Laree Taula, for the successful Internship Program and wished the interns all the very best during the remaining time of their scholarships here in New Zealand.
