70th Anniversary of the Commencement of the Korean War

On Wednesday 1 July 2020, the Samoa High Commissioner and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps (HE Leasi Papali’i Scanlan) laid a wreath, on behalf of the Diplomatic Corps, at the National Commemoration Service for the 70th Anniversary of the Korean War at the Pukeahu National Memorial Park in Wellington. The Prime Minister of New Zealand (Rt Hon Jacinda Ardern) spoke on behalf of the New Zealand Government while the new Korean Ambassador to New Zealand (HE Mr Sang-jin Lee) delivered an address on behalf of the Korean Government. According to the New Zealand Government, 6000 New Zealanders served in Korea between 1950 and 1957.
