Farewell for Outgoing Ambassadors

21st September 2020
New Zealand Diplomatic Corps
On Friday 18 September 2020, the Diplomatic Corps hosted a farewell function at the Wellington Club for three Heads of Mission & Spouses (from Poland, Pakistan and Thailand) who have completed their Terms of Duty in New Zealand. The Polish Ambassador (HE Zbigniew Gniatkowski & Mrs Agnieszhka Kacperska) have been in NZ for over 6 years, while both the High Commissioner of Pakistan (HE Dr Abdul Malik & Mrs Tahira Tufail) and the Ambassador of Thailand (HE Danai & Mrs Siriwan Menabodhi) just over two years each. As Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, the High Commissioner of Samoa (HE Leasi Papali’i Scanlan) spoke to farewell their outgoing Diplomatic Corps Colleagues. The Dean thanked the departing Heads of Mission & Spouses for their active support and positive contributions to the activities of the Dip Corps during their time in NZ. He congratulated them for being great ambassadors for their countries. HE Leasi reminded his DC Colleagues of one sad reality of diplomatic life where one gets posted to a new country, meet new people and make new friends but when their Terms are up they return home leaving these new friends behind. The NZ Diplomatic Corps is a close family and losing members of a family is always a very sad occasion. On behalf of the Diplomatic Corps, the Dean wished the outgoing Heads of Mission and Spouses safe travels home and all the very best in the next stages of their lives. In response, the departing Heads of Mission thanked the Dean and Dip Corps for their kind support and friendship during their time here in NZ.
