The High Commission, supported by the Wellington Samoan Golf Incorporated Society (WSGIS), hosted its first Golf tournament fundraiser on 26th October 2013 at the Shandon Golf Course in Lower Hutt. The new initiative aims to support promising Wellington-based young Samoan golfers by providing financial and technical assitance. The High Commissioner is a patron of the WSGIS and was the driving force behind the initiative, “We hope that by setting up an academy that nurtures and supports young Samoan golfers, it will have long-term benefits for young Samoan people and their families”. The tournament raised $7,000 and was well attended by members of the Diplomatic Corp and prominent business people of the Wellington community.
